Editor’s Notes

Greetings readers,

Please enjoy our June issue which features a review by rob mclennan of Sally Ito's "Alert to Glory" (Turnstone Press, 2011) and two poems, both of which have dedications. Jesse Adrian Wolfe's poem "I know where (for my father)" and Nick Power's untitled poem for John Lavery, a dear friend to many in Ottawa's literary community and a brilliant and talented creative force who is still missed greatly by all who knew him.

On the launch date of this issue, June 15, members of the Bywords team are sitting at a table selling chapbooks and copies of the Bywords Quarterly Journal at the Ottawa Small Press Book Fair, which takes place at the Jack Purcell Community Centre between noon to five pm. I hope you get a chance to stop by, say hello and purchase a few titles. If not, don't forget to visit our online store where you will find poetry from local writers, back issues of the BQJ and chapbooks from the John Newlove Poetry Award Chapbook Series.

And speaking of the John Newlove Poetry Award, just a reminder that poems published on Bywords.ca between August 2012 and September 2013 are eligible for consideration for the award. This means you have until July 15, 2013 to submit poems for this year's award. Our judge this year is Nova Scotia poet, Alice Burdick. Check the guidelines on the site and send us your best. The winner and shortlisted poets will read at the upcoming John Newlove Poetry Award Ceremony in October at the Ottawa International Writers Festival along with Jenna Jarvis, last year's winner, who will be launching her chapbook. Jenna has created a strong work. Several of our editors have had the pleasure of working with her on the chapbook. Stay tuned for more details on this year's award in the fall.
