John Morris
Following a 38-year career in business, John Morris self-published “Loose Hay: Poems of Glengarry” in 2018. He was the winner of the first and third prizes for poetry in the 2021 National Capital Writer’s Contest (NCWC), for “The Curved Twigs” and “A New Skin”. His poems, “Prayers for My Father,” and “Bridge Work,” appeared in Bywords.ca in December 2021 and July 2022, respectively, the former receiving one of two honourable mentions in that publication’s annual John Newlove Awards. Five other poems – “A Heron on The Road,” “The Blue Egg,” “Yuletide Refugee”, “Fractions,” and “The Tea Trolley” – have been honoured in recent competitions sponsored by the Ontario Poetry Society. John is a graduate of Concordia University. He has lived in Ottawa since 1980.
