Editor’s Notes

Greetings Readers,

The August issue features poetry by six current and former Ottawa residents and rob mclennan's review of "placeholder" by Charmaine Cadeau. I hope you have a good read.

The autumn literary season is almost upon us. Check out the Bywords.ca calendar of events to see all that awaits.

I would also like to extend a personal invitation to all supporters of Bywords.ca to help us in our annual fundraising efforts as part of Ottawa AIDS/HIV Walk for Life, which will take place on Saturday, September 14, 2013. This year we will be raising money for Bruce House, an organization that offers housing, support and hope for people affected by HIV/AIDS. If you'd like to help us support this important cause in our community.

"In the community of Ottawa, it is estimated that over 3600 people are living with HIV. Of those, 25% have not been tested and do not know they are HIV positive. Early detection and treatment can reduce the transmission of HIV and encourage those affected to access treatment and support. Despite advances in drug therapies, AIDS remains a deadly disease. This is the reality that each Walk Organization faces daily. Prevention remains the only cure. This is why we Walk for Life."
